Youth Mental Health First Aid

Course content

This course equips adults who teach, care for, or support young people with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to recognise, understand and respond to a young person experiencing a mental health problem or mental health crisis.

The Youth Mental Health First Aid course teaches participants how to provide initial support to a young person (aged 12–18) who may be experiencing a mental health problem or mental health crisis, until professional help is received, or the crisis resolves.

What you will learn:

Identify signs and symptoms of common mental health problems and crisis in adolescents.
How to recognise and respond to an emerging or worsening mental health problem.
How to approach a young person you are concerned about and initiate a conversation about those concerns.
How to offer initial support and information.
Effective treatments and professional supports available.

Designed For: Adults assisting young people

Delivery Format: Blended Face-to-Face, Face to Face, Online

Face-to-Face: 14 hours.

Online: Self-paced eLearning (5-7 hours), followed by 3 x 2.5-hour video conferencing sessions.

Blended Face-to-Face: Self-pace eLearning (5-7 hours), followed by 1 x 7-hour OR 2 x 3.5-hour face-to-face sessions.
