Youth Mental Health First Aid teaches participants how to provide initial support to a young person aged 12–18 who may be experiencing a mental health problem or crisis, until appropriate professional help is received or the crisis resolves.

 

This Mental Health First Aid course is practical, engaging, and ideal for adults supporting young people in school, community, sporting, and workplace settings.

 

Who Should Attend

This course is ideal for: Teachers, School leaders, Wellbeing teams, Education support staff, Youth workers, Coaches, Parents and carers and Adults supporting young people aged 12–18.

 

What You Will Learn

  • Recognise the signs and symptoms of common mental health problems in adolescents
  • Recognise and respond to an emerging or worsening mental health problem
  • Approach a young person you may be concerned about and start a supportive conversation
  • Provide initial support and practical assistance
  • Understand available professional supports and evidence-based treatments
  • Respond to common mental health crisis situations

Suitable For: Adults assisting young people

Delivery Format: Blended Face-to-Face, Face to Face, Online

Face-to-Face: 14 hours.

Online: Self-paced eLearning (5-7 hours), followed by 3 x 2.5-hour video conferencing sessions.

Blended Face-to-Face: Self-pace eLearning (5-7 hours), followed by 1 x 7-hour OR 2 x 3.5-hour face-to-face sessions.
