Delivery Format: Blended Face-to-Face, Face to Face, Online
Face-to-Face: 14 hours.
Online: Self-paced eLearning (5-7 hours), followed by 3 x 2.5-hour video conferencing sessions.
Blended Face-to-Face: Self-pace eLearning (5-7 hours), followed by 1 x 7-hour OR 2 x 3.5-hour face-to-face sessions.
This course equips adults who teach, care for, or support young people with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to recognise, understand and respond to a young person experiencing a mental health problem or mental health crisis.
The Youth Mental Health First Aid course teaches participants how to provide initial support to a young person (aged 12–18) who may be experiencing a mental health problem or mental health crisis, until professional help is received, or the crisis resolves.
Course content
What you will learn:
- Identify signs and symptoms of common mental health problems and crisis in adolescents.
- How to recognise and respond to an emerging or worsening mental health problem.
- How to approach a young person you are concerned about and initiate a conversation about those concerns.
- How to offer initial support and information.
- Effective treatments and professional supports available.
