Course content

Teenagers learn about the signs and symptoms of common mental health problems in adolescents, how to recognise and respond to an emerging or worsening mental health problem, and the interventions and supports available.

Using a practical, evidence-based action plan, teenagers learn how to approach a friend or classmate they are concerned about and initiate a conversation about those concerns. They also learn how to offer initial support and information, how to encourage their friend or peer to seek professional help, and when to seek the help of a trusted adult.

The Teen Mental Health First Aid course teaches teenagers how to provide initial peer-to-peer support to a friend or classmate who may be experiencing a mental health problem or mental health crisis, until professional help is received or the crisis resolves.

This course is tailored to students in Years 7–9 and students in Years 10–12 to ensure age-appropriate content is delivered.
