MHFA Day 2025: Make Every Conversation Matter
How Remedy First Aid Training is participating – and how you can too
What is MHFA Day all about?
MHFA Day shines a spotlight on the importance of mental health conversations – at work, at home, at school, and in our communities. It’s also a moment to celebrate and thank the thousands of Mental Health First Aiders who are out there making a difference every day.
In fact, there are over 1.5 million trained Mental Health First Aiders across Australia – everyday people equipped with skills and confidence to support someone experiencing a mental health problem, crisis, or distress. That’s like having a nationwide network of mental health helpers, ready to step in just like physical first aiders do for injuries.
At its core, Mental Health First Aid is about giving everyone the tools to make a difference – one conversation at a time.
What MHFA Day means to us
At Remedy First Aid Training, Mental Health First Aid Day is more than a date on the calendar—it’s a chance to lead by example and spark real change. This year’s powerful theme, Make Every Conversation Matter, speaks to our core belief that meaningful conversations can shape lives, support healing, and build stronger communities. We’re proud to be part of this first, history-making national event that shines a light on the global impact of Mental Health First Aid (MHFA).
Every day, our team is out in schools, workplaces, and neighbourhoods, empowering Australians to become Mental Health First Aiders. As Mental Health First Aid Certified Trainers, we see first-hand how vital these skills are for supporting people facing mental health challenges—one conversation at a time. From parents and teachers to managers and friends, anyone can be a Mental Health First Aider and make a difference where it counts most.
This Year’s Theme: Make Every Conversation Matter
This year’s theme resonates deeply. Make Every Conversation Matter
Here’s just one reason why making every conversation matter is so critical: half of all Australians will experience a mental illness in their lifetime, yet one in three won’t seek help when the need it most.
Many don’t seek professional help due to stigma, lack of awareness, or limited access to resources. Mental Health First Aid bridges this gap by empowering everyday people to recognise the signs of distress early and help connect individuals to appropriate support.
We spend up to 80% of our waking day in conversation, giving us countless opportunities to notice changes, check in, and offer support. Every conversation can be a turning point in someone’s life.
How We’re Living the Theme at Remedy First Aid Training
For 25 years, MHFA has been building circles of support and inspiring life- saving, stigma-breaking conversations here and around the world. Remedy First Aid Training is honoured to play a part in this movement.
Lunch & Learn Sessions
We’re offering flexible, bite-sized Lunch and Learn sessions for workplaces who want to upskill their teams and open conversations about mental health. It’s a great intro to Mental Health First Aid for busy staff or leadership teams wanting to build a culture of care.
Morning or Afternoon Tea Events
We’re helping organisations celebrate their Mental Health First Aiders with morning or afternoon teas. It’s the perfect time to say “thank you” to those who’ve stepped up to support their peers – and to inspire others to do the same.
We’ll bring the helpful resources and light facilitation to get people talking. You bring the cuppas and cake.
Celebrating everyday heroes
Mental Health First Aiders aren’t therapists. They’re colleagues, team leaders, friends, and family members – people who care and want to help others around them.
We’ll be connecting with our community of Remedy trained Mental Health First Aiders throughout the month of August to offer recognition, support and upskilling opportunities.
If you’re part of an organisation that:
- Has trained Mental Health First Aiders

Take Action This Mental Health First Aid Day
Mental Health First Aid Day reminds us that we all have a role to play in supporting mental well-being. Anyone can have a conversation that may save a life. These conversations – in person, on the phone, in virtual meetings, over text or via social media, are all opportunities to connect with someone who may be experiencing mental health problems.
There are many ways we can create space to connect, listen and learn from one another.
Why not host a morning tea at your workplace, school, sporting club or community group? No strict agenda, just a gentle opportunity to connect and talk.
Take it further with a “walk and talk” with staff or team mates. Ask them how they manage stress, or what they do to take care of themselves.
Some great tools to implement over a lunch or gathering is having conversation cards or question jars to draw from. You could include questions like “When has someone had your back?” “What could you say when you notice someone is having a hard time?” to get the conversation going.
